Seorang penyiar wanita Korea Selatan membuat kehebohan di negaranya. Biasa tampil cantik di depan kamera, penyiar bernama Lim Hyeon-ju itu tampil berbeda dengan mengenakan kaca mata.
Perubahan yang dibuat Hyeon-ju itu memang sangat drastis. Sebelumnya dia tak pernah tampil mengenakan kacamata.
Tapi mengapa sampai publik negeri K-Pop itu dibuat heboh?
Dikutip dari laman bussinessinsider.com.au, Lim Hyeon-ju sejak sebulan lalu mulai siaran untuk berita pagi Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) sambil memakai kaca mata.
Selama ini, semua penyiar wanita di negara itu selalu memakai lensa kontak dan bulu mata palsu ketika sedang bertugas.
Dalam tradisi siaran berita di Korsel ternyata hanya penyiar pria yang mengenakan kaca mata. Sedangkan penyiar wanita memakai lensa kontak dan bulu mata palsu.
Dengan gebrakannya ini, Lim adalah penyiar wanita pertama yang memakai kaca mata di negara itu, kantor berita Yonhap News melaporkan.
Lim mengaku terpaksa mendobrak tradisi itu karena matanya terasa kering dan lelah akibat memakai lensa kontak dan bulu mata palsu setiap hari.
Selama ini, Lim harus meneteskan air mata palsu untuk menjaga kelembaban mata selama bekerja di depan kamera. Akibat matanya yang terasa kering dan lelah, Lim mengaku sulit berkonsentrasi pada pekerjaannya.
“Saya harus bangun awal untuk berita pagi. Tetapi ketika saya tidak memiliki waktu tidur yang cukup dan hanya punya persiapan yang singkat. Saya terkadang ingin memakai kaca mata. Saya merasa bisa lebih fokus pada berita jika saya mengurangi kelelahan saya.
"Pemirsa juga akan lebih fokus pada isi berita, bukan penampilan pembaca beritanya," tulis Lim di Instagram.
Di awal keputusannya, Lim mengaku membutuhkan 'sedikit keberanian' untuk mengenakan kaca mata saat siaran. Tetapi sejak mendapat ribuan pesan dukungan dari netizen, dia berjanji akan terus memakai kaca mata.
Wanita Korsel memang dikenal memiliki standar kecantikan sangat tinggi. Apalagi Negeri Ginseng itu terkenal sebagai negara dengan operasi kecantikan per kapita terbanyak di dunia. hampir satu juta prosedur setiap tahun.
Tidak memakai riasan wajah penuh saat bekerja - terlepas dari jenis pekerjaannya - juga dapat dianggap tidak profesional di kantor-kantor tertentu di Korea Selatan, lapor Quartz.
Sebuah jajak pendapat baru-baru ini juga mengungkapkan temuan yang sangat mengejutkan tentang pemakaian kaca mata saat bekerja.
Menurut survei tersebut, lebih dari 50 persen dari 552 pekerja Korea Selatan mengatakan bahwa mereka belum pernah melihat rekan kerja wanita memakai kaca mata.
Survei tahun 2016 oleh portal kerja nasional menemukan bahwa lebih dari 60% personel sumber daya manusia mengatakan penampilan pelamar kerja memengaruhi peluangnya untuk mendapatkan pekerjaan.
